Plot:
A girl named Casey strives to complete a physics project for an interview to major in physics at Harvard, which is her mom's dream for her. A classmate named Gen wants to live life in high school, stop skipping classes, hangout with her boyfriend and go to parties, but her mom's dream for her is to train and become a professional ice skater. Two mothers have dreams for their daughters, that are based on dreams of their own that did not come true. Casey's mother wants her daughter to become a brilliant scholar; she doesn’t like the "twinkle little outfits" that figure skaters wear. Coach Tina is Gen's mother, and she was once a figure skating champion who made a mistake that cost her a change to compete for an Olympic gold medal. She wants her daughter Gen to be a professional skater, but Gen does not want to be a skater. Both mothers learn that their daughters are individuals, and are entitled to their own dreams. Casey rejects Harvard for an ice skating career, and Gen quits skating and seeks a math tutor to get back into school activities, that she missed out on by training. Both girls, learn to follow their own dreams. Review:
The story is family based and promotes individuality and determination. The struggle between teenage daughter and her mother's dream for her to be a scholar forces Casey to lie about skating, which could be relatable to many tweens who do not feel confident enough to stand up for their own dreams. Casey transforms from physics wiz to ice princess, and learns to overcome her shyness and make friends; she even snags a boyfriend in the process. Skating is Casey's passion, and this film promotes the idea that with hard work anything can be accomplished.
